Freshman Arkansas state legislator recognized for tenacious efforts to protect state pension funds from ESG scams
SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. (December 5, 2023) -- Representative Mindy McAlindon has been recognized by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) as the 2023 State Legislator of the Year for her outstanding efforts in safeguarding Arkansas state pension funds from ESG scams and politically motivated investment schemes. ALEC annually honors public servants who uphold the principles of limited government, free markets, and federalism. This bill is one of 13 important legislative initatives brought to the Arkansas floor by Rep. McAlindon in the 2023 legislative session.
McAlindon, the author of House Bill 1253, which established the State Government Employee Retirement Protection Act, was presented with the prestigious award at the ALEC States and Nation Policy Summit. The event brought together legislators from across the nation to discuss policy ideas and priorities for 2024.
"It is rare for a first-term lawmaker to achieve a significant legislative victory right from the start," remarked ALEC CEO Lisa B. Nelson. "Rep. McAlindon's exceptional leadership will safeguard the retirement funds of Arkansas state government workers and taxpayers from risky investment schemes."
Expressing gratitude, Rep. McAlindon said, "I share this tremendous honor with my colleagues in the Arkansas legislature and Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who, like ALEC, recognize the need to keep politics out of our state pensions. I would also like to thank ALEC for providing principled policy ideas to help our state prosper."
First elected to the Arkansas Legislature in 2022, Rep. McAlindon, a former author, marketing executive, and financial analyst for Ford Motor Credit Company, resides in Centerton with her family – a wife and mother of four.
"Rep. McAlindon has blazed a trail that state legislators throughout the land should follow. It’s an honor to recognize her as the Legislator of the Year," concluded Nelson.
Last week, Rep. McAlindon announced her campaign plans for re-election to the Arkansas State House in 2024. For more information about Rep. McAlindon or to support her campaign, visit www.mindyforarkansas.com.
